In the ninth century, men from Norway came to some Scottish Islands, these were the Vikings.

They came to Britain in ships and carried: animals, gold, women, children...

Now, people in Scottish Islands remember the Vikings with a festival. They call it “Up –Helly-Ah”.

They use to make a model of a ship, with the head of a dragon at the front. People dress in Viking clothes.

They carry the ship through the town to the sea, and they burn it.

They do this because the Vikings put their dead men in ships and burned them.
